ANZAC Day

In every year 25th of April ANZAC Day is a very special day for Australians . The letters stand

for Australian and New Zea land Army Corps. Australian soldiers are called Diggers. Most

countries have people who work in the army, the navy or the air force -- this is called the

Defence Force. “Defend” means “to keep safe” and the people in the Australian Defence Force

keep our country safe and protect us.

Most of the countries in the world joined in the fighting and this was called the First World War.

Simpson and his Donkey are famous heroes from the First World War. Simpson called his

donkey Duffy.

On ANZAC Day we show our thanks to the people who have fought for our country. The Ode is

part of a special poem that is said during the ANZAC Day service. The word we say in reply to

Ode is - We will remember them. On ANZAC Day flowers and wreaths of red poppies are laid at

the bottom of war memorials as a way of saying we have remembered these brave people. A war

memorial is a place that honours all those who have died in wars.

Migrants settling into a new country

Settling in a new country is often an alienating process for many immigrants; they

are forced to disconnect with their social ties and norms in the home country,

leaving much of their social capital behind. In addition to the language problems

and cultural shock, the lack of social support often makes the situation more

difficult, further hindering the integration process. Immigrants arriving to a

foreign land often employ many strategies to overcome these obstacles and re-

accumulate their social capital.

Social capital is important in establishing roots for immigrants, whether it is

channeling local information or developing reciprocal relationships, those with

social ties and existing networks may be easier in locating the resource. Such ties

are means in which immigrants can rely on to improve their socioeconomic conditions

thorough introduction to employment opportunities and social services.

It is also possible that immigrants will be introduced to new religions and join

with these institutions. Through participating in these religious institutions.
